Furthering The Art Of Music

What is the BC Registered Music Teachers Association (BCRMTA)?
We are members of the Canadian Federation of Registered Music Teachers (CFMTA);
a Canada- wide association of experienced music teachers with diplomas and/or degrees from recognized music programs.
The aim of the association is to encourage and promote high standards of music teaching in each community.

BCRMTA Coquitlam / Maple Ridge

Our branch was formed in 1985 with a few members and has grown to a present membership of over 80. The branch holds regular meetings and offers workshops, seminars and conferences in conjunction with our provincial and national organizations to keep members up to date on new teaching concepts and to organize activities that support the development of local music students.

Our teachers provide music lessons to students of all ages and levels on a variety of instruments. We promote musical excellence in our students by offering master classes and workshops and by encouraging active participation in our North Fraser Music Festival, held annually in April, our Spring Recital in May and the Canada Music Week® recital and related events held in November. We encourage the sharing of music with family and friends and in the community and we sincerely hope that the pleasure of music making will become an important and integral part in the lives of our students and their families.

Professional Development & Affiliations

Our branch, along with other BCRMTA braches, is affiliated with the Provincial Branch of the BCRMTA and the Canadian Music Teachers Association (CFMTA). Through these associations we are developing, educating and expanding our expertise in music education at Conferences that feature Workshops and Masterclasses instructed by eminent music educators.

In September of 2010, our branch hosted the Provincial Conference, "Be a Quay Player" with great success. Some of our members are also involved with bringing the Canadian Convention to Vancouver this July 2015. This Convention is called "Pathways to... Collatoration - Performance - Wellness" We are looking forward to meeting with many of our colleagues from across Canada and attending the many workshops, masterclasses and concerts this summer.
