History

In 1932 a group of private music teachers came together to form the BC Registered Music Teachers’ Association (BCRMTA).

A national organization the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers (CFMT) was founded in 1935 in Vancouver BC.

In 1985 a group of ten private teachers wanted to promote continued learning and quality private music lessons so the Coquitlam-Maple Ridge branch was formed.

One of the twenty-one branches in BC we have grown to approximately 70 members with a wide variety of music instruction.

For all levels of membership a high level of training is required. Teachers must have completed a recognized program.

Purpose

• To promote and support high standards of private music education.
• To provide learning opportunities for teachers and students.
• To provide leadership in music education.

The Coquitlam-Maple Ridge provides professionals with a high level of training offering a wide variety of quality music instruction.
