Doris Kung-Wong

Doris was born in Hong Kong and had her early musical training there. She then came to Calgary in 1984 and started her piano education with Mr. Dan Morin, later moving to Edmonton to pursue a Bachelor of Music Degree in University of Alberta. Her teachers at this time included Ernesto Lejano, Helmut Brauss and Alexandra Munn. Besides graduating with a Bachelor of Music Degree, she also received the Associate of Music in Performance from the Conservatory of Canada (formerly known as the Western Board of Music). Although Doris has been a piano teacher for more than 25 years, she continues her role as a student. She has attended music workshops, conferences and private pedagogy lessons from various experienced teachers. She also completed a Bachelor of Commerce Degree despite her busy schedule.

Doris has been an active member of ARMTA in Alberta and presently a member of the British Columbia Registered Music Teacher Association. She has proven herself to be a patient and conscientious teacher. Her approach to teaching involves song, imagery and story. She prepares students for Royal Conservatory examinations, music festivals and recitals. She also teaches her own children piano and theory.

Presently Doris teaches in her home studio in North Burnaby. Besides making music, she enjoys choral singing, reading, cooking and travelling
